A Story for the Aged

My left thumb is like my new Barbie.  But only in the sense that I get to change its outfit now with some frequency.  It has its gym outfit.  It has its work outfit.  And now it has loungwear!

Going back to the beginning of all of this, less than a year ago, my wrists and thumbs started bothering me.  It was just pops and clicks at first, but my left thumb really went for it at some point and started to add little flourishes of painful zings to go along with the sound effects.  And now I'm going to share something else with you; I've got some inconvenient genetics.  They're not totally bad — I actually like most of them.  But, a connective tissue disorder AND a family history of arthritis?!  That's totally unnecessary.  Add in a daily regimen of working with fine tools for hours on end, day-after-day, and eventually your thumbs just give up the ghost, apparently.

Initially, this was a cause for panic.  Which, if I'm being honest, panic is my go-to when dealing with any level of adversity.  But, both my hand specialist and my PT are in agreement that this is a workable problem and I can not only manage it, but even achieve some improvement. And I am going to choose to believe them.  👍
