Not so long ago, I heard a grown man pronounce the word cicada "chi-CAH-da". That was a first. There are certain "tells" when someone is not all that into bugs. Not being able to pronounce (or even spell, apparently) the name of a fairly common one, I would say is probably one of them.
That said, cicadas are one of my most favorite insects. "Dog Day" cicadas, the big ones that come out every year here in NJ, produce my all-time, favorite sound on the face of the planet. To me, it is the sound of swimming, and sunshine, and days that last forever — or at least until well after 8 pm. When the cicadas come out, you know you are 100% fully into summer. They like it hot...and so do I! 🦎

As for the second cicada size, it's SO CLOSE TO BEING DONE and I have no excuse for not having finished it yet, BUT, here's what I have so far: a body, wings, and six legs. At the moment, the legs are still unrefined and look more like a six-legged frog, but I think I can fix that. This is going to be a very special piece with articulated wings! It will be available as a stick pin or a pendant. I think I'm gonna do a brooch version, too. Wish me luck...and I will keep you posted! 🥹
